Cooling, icing, noise and water leak faults in no-frost and static fridges and freezers of all brands.
Diagnosis and repair from 1,000 TRY
The fridge is the appliance that runs uninterrupted for the longest time at home, so faults often start slowly and grow unnoticed. Catching early signs such as the freezer not freezing enough, the lower compartment getting wet, or the motor running and stopping often can prevent an expensive compressor replacement.
Common faults
- Not cooling: Start relay, thermal protector, fan motor or gas leak; compressor failure is the last possibility.
- Icing (no-frost): Defrost heater, bimetal or sensor fault; the evaporator ices up and airflow stops.
- Water leak: A blocked drain or a failing door gasket.
- Loud noise: Fan motor, compressor vibration mount or levelling.
- Over-cooling: Thermostat or NTC sensor fault.
Service flow
The technician first measures internal temperature and compressor current and performs a leak test. If there is a gas leak the source is located, brazed and the system refilled under vacuum. A typical repair takes 1-2 hours; for major jobs like compressor replacement, planning is made within 24-48 hours.
Our advice
For fridges older than 10 years with a compressor failure, if the repair cost exceeds 50% of the device's value, buying a new one may make more sense; in that case we tell you honestly.
